Corporate Missteps

For some reason, corporations think they can control information. Here is a testament to the fact that you can't control information on the Intenet. As Stan Laurel said, "Honesty is the best politics."

Seth Godin's Blog: More failed efforts at control
Jay Levinson's 1984 book Guerilla Marketing was like the Boston Tea Party of the Cluetrain Revolution. It advocates cheap, direct communication without a lot of hoo-ha. Seth Godin worked on a 1994 follow-up with Levinson, applying Internet technologies to the same basic principles. Godin's 1999 work Permission Marketing is consonant with Cluetrain, and Godin is a signator. Here he is discussing the implications of companies buying up criticism domains.

Rahodeb

BoingBoing on Rahodeb
Whole Foods CEO John Mackey - widely regarded as a leader in business ethics - was posting 'anonymously' on the Yahoo message boards for two years under the username "Rahodeb." Rahodeb frequently bashed Whole Foods' competition, Wild Oats. This all came to light under Securities and Exchange Commission scrutiny when Whole Foods was attempting to BUY Wild Oats. Oops. Covered here in influential blog BoingBoing.

Whole Foods tells execs to stay off the Web when it comes to talking shop
And so Whole Foods decides that no employees can post to outside blogs or forums. Whole Foods does provide a robust set of blogs for customer to communicate with the company.

Baby Camp

Goin' to Camp, Johnson's Baby Camp
Johnson & Johnson hosted a conference for the so-called "Mommy Bloggers." Problem - no children allowed. Also, note to companies: if you cheese off bloggers, get ready to read about it.
